About VIMBS

A Zimbabwean engineering consultancy built on two decades of water expertise.

VIMBS Irrigation Consultancy is a registered Zimbabwean company delivering irrigation engineering, water resources assessment and climate-smart agricultural infrastructure — connecting European technology with African implementation.

Why VIMBS exists

Zimbabwe has land, sunlight and skilled farmers. What limits agricultural output is water — and more precisely, the engineering that turns an uncertain water source into a dependable, affordable supply at the root zone.

Too many irrigation investments here begin with an equipment quotation rather than a water balance. Systems are installed that cannot be supplied in a dry sequence, cannot be maintained locally, or cost more in pumping energy than the crop can carry. VIMBS was established to correct that sequence: hydrology first, then design, then equipment.

At the same time, European manufacturers produce irrigation technology that is well suited to Zimbabwean conditions but lack a technically credible local partner able to specify, adapt, install and support it. VIMBS operates as that conduit in both directions.

Vision

A water-secure African agriculture in which every hectare irrigated is engineered, efficient and resilient to climate variability.

Mission

To deliver independent, research-backed engineering that connects international technology with Zimbabwean agricultural, institutional and environmental realities.

Registered in Zimbabwe

VIMBS is a registered Zimbabwean company based in Harare, operating nationally and across the Southern African region, with international collaboration links in Europe.

Our values

Engineering integrity

Recommendations follow the analysis, never the commission. We hold no equipment sales interest.

Evidence first

Every design rests on measured hydrology, soils and crop water requirement.

Whole-life thinking

We optimise cost per tonne over decades, not capital cost at tender.

Local capability

We build the client's operating and maintenance capacity as part of delivery.

Sustainability

Schemes must remain viable under drier, more variable future conditions.

Partnership

We work as a long-term technical partner to farms, governments and manufacturers.

Experience

VIMBS is led by a UK Chartered Engineer with more than twenty years across irrigation design, hydrology and water resources — including service as a Provincial Irrigation Engineer, doctoral research, and consultancy for commercial, government and development-sector clients.

International collaboration

Our work draws on research and professional links in Europe, including doctoral study at the University of Minho in Portugal and international engineering training. Those relationships underpin our role as a technical bridge between EU manufacturers, research institutions and Zimbabwean agriculture.
